June 2025 Citizen Science Noise Monitoring Comparisons

The month of June is historically challenging for residents under and near the Navy’s Growler jet flight paths, due to the longer days and fair weather. Flights tend to start earlier and end later, with many summer nights with jet noise continuing past midnight in some areas. We are collecting jet noise comparisons across the region to see how our experiences* differ week to week.

It is important for us to be aware of the flight activity and impacts in different areas. There have been stints where Coupeville, for example, has a completely quiet week. For those living in Coupeville, it may feel like a win. Unbeknownst to those in that area, the San Juans could be experiencing a daily barrage of jet noise and sleepless nights.

We aim to use these comparisons as a way to inform our community of the various experiences we all face due to the Growler jets’ impacts on our area.

*Note: These reports do not represent universal experiences for everyone in the listed areas, nor are these the only areas with Growler noise impacts.
